Her Voice Documentary

Yuting Li, a 2024 graduate of the Department of Journalism in her documentary “Her Voice”, tells the story of Nüshu, considered to be the world’s only writing system conceived by and used exclusively by women. In the past, under the Chinese feudal system of male superiority and female subordination, women were not allowed to attend school. And so, women in Hunan province created Nüshu and passed it down, mother to daughter, for generations as a way for them to express themselves and to share their stories with other women.
